Art exhibit

Old Courthouse Museum Art Gallery, 103 W. Cherry St., Watseka, will feature Mike Alexander, of Kentland, Ind. His work includes painting, welding art, woodwork, pottery, charcoal and glass sketching. Merchant Street Art Gallery of Artists with Autism events

• Hands on Art History, an individual and group painting class in the style of Frida Kahlo de Rivera, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today. Open to the public; children must be accompanied by an adult. Wear clothes that won't be damaged by paint.

• Unlock the Potential of your Child workshop, from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, for school staff and parents. It will address social and emotional issues, sensory and informational processing needs, communication deficits, how to accommodate other learning styles and how to reduce behavior interventions. Adult artists with autism will speak on how they navigated the school system. Cost is $10, payable to ROE, 1 Stuart Drive, Kankakee, IL 60901. CPDUs available.

• Mosaic on Glass workshop, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 27, by Linda Szymanski. Early bird tickets (by Oct. 16) for people with autism are $10. Tickets open to the public on Oct. 17. Bring an 8-by-10-inch sketch of a mosaic design. Accepting donations of glass beads that are flat on one side.

Kankakee Quilt Makers

The Kankakee Quilt Makers will meet 7 p.m. Thursday, at Calvary Bible Church, 2587 E. Armour Road, Bourbonnais. The program will be by Beth and Carol from Quilter's Garden in Princeton. For more information, call 708-828-5110.

Genealogical Society supper

Iroquois County Genealogical Society will host a Souperstitious Supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Victorian Parlor of the Old Courthouse Museum, 103 W. Cherry St., Watseka. The menu includes several kinds of homemade soups, roll, dessert and drink. Meals also will be available for carryout, but if you dine in, you can enjoy seconds. Find decorations of black cats, crows, ladders, broken mirrors and printed superstitions. Those attending will receive a "Knock on Wood" block. No reservations are needed; donation only and it's a come-as-you-are meal. For more information, call the ICGS office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday at 815-432-3730.

Kankakee Valley Theatre Association

• Picnic with the cast of "Madagascar: A Musical Adventure, Jr!" from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, at the KVTA Studios, 1 Stuart Drive, Kankakee. The special guest will be Judy Corrigan, the program instructor at Willowhaven Interpretive Center. She will be bringing several live animals plus some cool animal skins.

Bring a lunch; water and lemonade provided. For a chance to win a prize, decorate a picnic basket or lunch bag with a theme related to Madagascar. (There will be one prize for the best basket and one prize for the best lunch bag.) The cost is $2 per child and accompanying adults are free; pay at the door.

• "The Addams Family," a comedy about when the kids grow up, will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 and 28 and 2 p.m. Oct. 22 and 29, at Kankakee Junior High School, 2250 E. Crestwood St., Kankakee. Tickets are sold at kvta.org or at the door. The cast includes members from Kankakee, Bourbonnais, Orland Park, Braidwood, Bradley, Peotone, Steger, Herscher, Chicago Heights, Grant Park and Manteno.

Kankakee Art League

The Kankakee Art League will hold its monthly meeting and potluck luncheon at 10 a.m. Oct. 17 at the Lisieux Pastoral Center, 371 N. St. Joseph Ave., Kankakee. Following the business meeting and election of officers, members will gather holiday tree-decorating ideas and begin planning their participation in the annual Festival of Trees event at the Kankakee History Museum in December. This year's theme is "Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child." A mini-workshop activity with a holiday theme will be presented. All are invited.

Bourbonnais Grove Historical Society

The Fleur-de-lis Celebration Dinner will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Kankakee Country Club. Tickets for $65 per person ($55 member price) include a traditional French-Canadian dinner, followed by an award ceremony and entertainment. Retired Teachers Association

The Ford-Iroquois Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 26, at Milford Family Restaurant, 107 E. Jones St., Milford. Guest speaker will be attorney Ted Spenn, discussing laws seniors should be aware of, power of attorney for health and money, wills and trusts. Master Gardeners classes

The Ford Iroquois Master Gardeners will hold the 2018 Master Gardening Training classes in Danville and Champaign. The cost of the classes is $225 for in-person classes with a volunteer agreement, $475 for in-person classes with no volunteer agreement, and $300 for online classes. Call the local extension office to register. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 7, with a Celebrate the Garden luncheon following the meeting. Turkey will be served, and members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert using something raised in the garden.
