Looking for something fun and festive to do this holiday season with your significant other? Something more than the typical dinner and a movie? Look no further than Downtown Indy for all kinds of activities and holiday-themed events that are sure to turn date night into a night to remember. Here are some best bets for making merry this season—and while your out, be sure to plan a stop at the center of it all, the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Decked out with 4,784 colored LED lights on 52 garland strands, the monument and its decorated surroundings make the perfect backdrop for a romantic photo.

Walk Through a Decorated Forest

Discover fabulously decked-out trees at the Indiana Historical Society’s Festival of Trees. Featuring 80 trees all with individual themes like “Santa’s Library,” “Making Smiles Bright” and “A Picture-Perfect Christmas,” the annual event is sure to inspire decorating ideas in everyone. And you get to vote for your favorite.

Roast S’mores

Experience a brand-new holiday celebration this season at Newfields with Winterlights, a multi-sensory, outdoor light spectacle featuring more than one million lights. The experience includes music, weekly visits from Santa, fire pits for roasting s’mores, drink stations and more. You can also experience Winterlights with Christmas at the Lilly House. Come see the lawn sparkle with beautiful floral displays and holiday decor.

Shop a Holiday Bazaar

Yelp’s Totally Bazaar at the Indianapolis Central Public Library is a one-of-a-kind holiday shopping extravaganza featuring over 150 venders offering everything from local food and drink to unique Hoosier-made gifts. Attendees must RSVP.

Listen to a Grand Concert

The Holly & The Ivy Holiday Concert, Indiana Landmarks annual organ performance, includes traditional and contemporary holiday music featuring the restored 1892 Grand Hall organ. Also on stage are pianists, cheerful sounding handbells and singers.

Enjoy a Holiday-themed Comedy

Emmy Award winning actress Jane Lynch brings her show, “A Swingin’ Little Christmas,” to the Cabaret stage for a comical look at ‘60s Christmas specials of days gone by. Joining Lynch, is her Glee, vocal arranger Tim Davis and Kate Flannery from The Office.

Experience IMAX

Laugh with The Ghost of Xmas Past

Have Fun at the Fieldhouse

Bankers Life Fieldhouse has a stellar lineup of entertainment planned for the month of December. Katy Perry, one of the world’s most iconic superstars, is set to perform Dec. 9; the WZPL Jingle Jam with Backstreet Boys and The Chainsmokers is scheduled for Dec. 12; Purdue vs. Butler and Indiana vs. Notre Dame men’s basketball games are slated for Dec. 16; the Trans-Siberian Orchestra celebrates performs “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve,” Dec. 20; and Jeff Dunham brings his “Passively Aggressive” performance to the Fieldhouse Dec. 28.

Rock in the New Year

Celebrate the New Year early at Indianapolis City Market Dec. 9. The black-tie—or costumes welcome too—event features an artisan craft market, carnival games and performances set to a 1950’s theme. Proceeds benefit City Market and help fund future improvement projects.
