Guest speaker shares low-cost decorating ideas

Guest speaker Lisa Johnson spoke on creative ideas for Christmas decorating around the house.

A simple and effective table centrepiece was made with three canning sealers on a tray with battery operated mini lights, pinecones, twigs, and sprays of green branches.

By using a clear mason jar decorated with ribbons and colourful stickers on the outside, she created a homemade gift that could be also used as a mini tea light or candle jar.

She suggested recycling containers from the garden or summer planter boxes instead of buying urns. Fill them with logs, green sprays of cedar and pine boughs or small tree branches for an outdoor decoration.

Add some "bling” to a simple clear glass container or vase, then spice it up by layering with cranberries and Epsom salts.

Ordinary tree branches can be painted white to look like birch logs and become very effective in larger outdoor arrangements. Add a bit of burlap, pinecones, and colourful ribbon.
