Craft your holidays with Saturday's bazaar

The holidays have begun with all kinds of tricks and treats.

This Saturday, Nov. 4, treat yourself and your friends with something special at the 42nd annual “Helping Hands” Crafts Bazaar.

Sponsored by the Woman’s Club of Greene to benefit its scholarship fund, the bazaar is held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Ruckersville Elementary School, 107 Progress Place. The school is on the north side of U.S. 33 west, 1 mile past the light at U.S. 29 and 33. Vendor spaces are located in the cafeteria, gym and on the stage.

The annual Woman’s Club of Greene Bazaar is the go-to place for the best in unique gifts, decorating ideas, holiday celebration goods and so much.

“It is going to e a great bazaar,” says project chairman Monica Waugh. “We have almost 40 vendors with many favorites returning along with some new surprises like Blue Ridge Coffee Crafters.

“Lavender Farm is setting up a booth,” she said. “Vendors with holiday and everyday decorations and gifts will offer tempting new treasurers including kitchen and household goods, stained glass accents to add sparkle to your surroundings, essential oils and accessories for you and your home.”

Besides the delectable baked goods offered by some vendors, the members of the Woman’s Club will offer their popular canteen/cafĂ© in the cafeteria. Early on, breakfast offerings include baked goods, ham biscuits and drinks. The lunch menu changes to chili, hot dogs, drinks and the club’s special baked potato bar with all the fixings to make a delicious potato masterpiece.

Fuel your imagination as you fill your Christmas gift list or your any-day wish list. Decorate for the holiday or add that something perfect to your home and garden decor. Put sparkle in your wardrobe with fancy and fanciful jewelry and fashion accessories. Find unique and wonderful arts and crafts in wood, fabric, ceramic, paper, glass and any variety of media. More than 40 artisans and crafters are offering their best so you can give your best.

Helpful Woman’s Club members will be available to assist you in finding your perfect item and to answer any questions about the club, the scholarship and the other many fantastic projects and programs of the Woman’s Club of Greene. Also helping make the day successful will be members of the William Monroe High School Beta Club.

Graduating William Monroe High School senior girls are the beneficiaries of the funds raised by Woman‘s Club annual bazaar. Past recipients have gone on to become nurses, teachers even joining law enforcement. Many have stayed to help their community.

The Scholarship Committee works to give more scholarship to the exceptional applicants with several fundraisers. The major fundraiser for the scholarships is the annual “Helping Hands” Crafts Bazaar. Others include the Cause Night Dinner, Fall Fashion Show and other opportunities that arise during the year.

With limited funds and a desire to award additional scholarships, the Scholarship Committee is hoping to create an endowment

fund. With increasing college costs, a legacy donation (bequest) would help ensure sufficient funding for each year and remove the burden of uncertainty. Even a small bequest or any donation can change the future of a Greene County student and the community.

To become an investor in the future of the young women of Greene County, donations can be made to the Woman’s Club of Greene, P.O. Box 352, Stanardsville, Va. 22973. Please note on the check it is for the Scholarship Fund.

The Woman’s Club, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1975 by teachers and social workers who wanted to enhance the lives of others to create change by advancing education through the Scholarship Fund.

Like the club members, former scholarship recipients have gone on to serve their communities in education, engineering, law enforcement and medicine. Many of the recipients have returned to Greene and continue to give back to the community.
