WIN hosting holiday decorating event

Women in Networking, a committee of the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce, is hosting "Deck the Halls with Mary Scroggins and Liz Madsen," a decorating ideas session from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Kankakee Train Depot at 197 S. East Ave. in Kankakee.

The lunch and program will begin at noon after a networking session. Lunch is being catered by the Country Table. Cost is $15 for Chamber members and $25 for nonmembers. RSVP by emailing WINKankakee@gmail.com, or call 815-351-9068.

ONU to hold Theological Leadership Conference in February

Olivet Nazarene University's School of Theology and Christian Ministry is inviting all pastors and church leaders to be part of the upcoming Theological Leadership Conference on Feb. 16-17. Keynote speaker is William Willimon, an author, church leader and ministry professor.

Willimon is the professor of the practice of Christian Ministry at Duke Divinity School. For eight years, he served as bishop of the North Alabama Conference of The United Methodist Church, leading 157,000 Methodists and 792 pastors. For 20 years before the episcopacy, he was dean of the Chapel and Professor of Christian Ministry at Duke University.

He is the author of 70 books and has sold more than a million copies of his books. His book, "Worship as Pastoral Care," was selected as one of the 10 most useful books for pastors in 1979 by the Academy of Parish Clergy. His newest book, "Who Lynched Willie Earle? Confronting Racism through Preaching," was released earlier this year.

The Theological Leadership Conference also will include special presentations, breakout discussion groups, conversation and community meals. Registration is open at Olivet.edu/TLC. Cost per person is $59 before Jan. 15, and $79 per person after Jan.15. For students, the cost is $29 per person.
